The Note

 I wrote

On a note

Words to live by

Words to point me to life

Words to warn of the danger

Of how neglect will lead in to strife

I wrote

On a note

At eye level

Words that I could not ignore

To ensure I would level with them often

Placed prophetically next to the door

I wrote

On a note

About stewardship

About how you're one but you're not

If you never take time for accounting

You lose if you refuse to take stock

And passing that note on the daily

Always thinking 'yes,

I must get round to address that'.

My words (and yours) now condemn me

As I pass by, on loop, in my flat.

My best intentions

They have undone me

A doer of words that I've heard

Is better than hearing more often

And never obeying a word.
