The New Has Come

 I am a new creation,

The old has gone,

So tell me

How is it that

The new has come

to this?

This jaded

half-faded,

Apathy-invaded,

Husk of what was to come?

Had the old,

Really gone,

Or was I one

Who failed,

Having fled,

To run.

Shod in lead

Should I have been

Shot in the head?

I'm running like a dead man walking,

And evil crouches at the door,

stalking

Whom it may devour,

Cometh the dead,

Cometh the hour.

The Old was gone

and done away,

Yet done

With roots left

gaining sway.

They should have drowned with me that day

But the good ground

Gave up its goods to play

And the danger

Became the disaster

But sin shall no longer be your master.

So how did the new

Come to this?

I was caught

In the thickest thicket

Entangled easily

I took the ticket

Struck the leg

Before the wicket

Dismissed myself

Before I hit it.

Sin was deeper

Than I'd admitted,

And just one degree off course,

Means you'll never find true North.

No I did not die

Entirely,

I gave the lie

to being free,

The new had come,

But had it come for me?

The old man came back round,

My race did not get off the ground.

Good soil can start again

It's been long-fallow

Now it needs the rain,

And I've sown in tears

and soaked in pain,

But this night

has not been in vain,

And the joy will come

all the same.

As the New is birthed

Through the death of Old,

Now is the time

to drown it's hold,

Hold it down

for a Crown, not of Gold

But vernix and blood

And helplessness,

Oh God, I die,

For your Righteousness

Oh Christ, I cry,

For you.

I am helpless apart from you.
